GRUEN Watch Company
One of the most important and prestigious American watch manufacturers! Gruen watch company was an American watch company founded in 1874 in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA by German-born watchmaker Dietrich Gruen. "On December 22, 1874, Gruen obtained a patent for an improved safety pinion, and it is the date recognized by the Gruen Watch Company as the start of its business."
In 1894, Dietrich, along with his eldest son, Frederick G. Gruen, started as “D. Gruen & Son” and years later, the second son George J., joined the firm and the name was changed to “D. Gruen & Sons”.
The company quickly became a major player in the American watch industry, prove of that, one of the company's most significant contributions to the watchmaking industry, the Gruen Precision movement. Introduced in the 1930s, it was a highly accurate and reliable movement that quickly gained a reputation for excellence.
The Gruen Precision movement was an improvement over earlier Gruen movements and incorporated several new features, including a Breguet hairspring, a micrometer regulator, and a higher beat rate of 36,000 vibrations per hour. The movement was also designed to be more shock-resistant and durable than previous Gruen movements.
They were used in a range of watches, including both men's and women's models. It was particularly popular in chronograph watches, which required a high level of accuracy and precision.
Today, vintage Gruen watches with the Precision movement are highly sought-after by collectors and enthusiasts. These watches are prized for their historical significance, as well as their craftsmanship and reliability.

ALARM
- The Precision Watch - "The Gruen Precision is a nice elegant watch with a movement that may not be seen as modern. Nonetheless, it offers an innovative style that is simply spectacular."
We are delighted to present a rare timepiece: the Gruen Precision Alarm, reference 910SS, from the 1950s. This manual-wind wristwatch features a Langendorf caliber 1244 mechanical movement with 17 jewels. The watch’s unique design is controlled entirely by a single crown, with an open aperture at 12 o’clock that displays red when the alarm is set and white when it is off.
The movement is equipped with two separate barrels: one for the watch and another for the alarm. The alarm barrel is wound by turning the crown clockwise (toward 12:00), while the mainspring barrel is wound counterclockwise (toward 6:00). The crown also has two separate positions to independently set the alarm hand and the time. This advanced functionality represents a significant innovation in mechanical alarm technology.
The 35mm stainless steel round case features a striking fancy lug design and a snap-back. The original white dial retains its art deco Arabic numerals, "torch" indices, luminous hands, and black arrow alarm indicator hand. It also includes a sweep second hand. The dial is signed with "Gruen," "Precision," "Alarm," and "Switzerland" at the bottom.
Completing the look, the watch is paired with a brand-new black Hadley-Roma genuine leather two-piece strap.
This wristwatch remains in great condition, runs exceptionally well, and is a stunning example of mid-century design and innovation.

Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust the lighting, when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.
The condition is pre-owned.

Please be aware that the item you are bidding on or purchasing is a VINTAGE item. If this item is a watch, unless otherwise noted, it is keeping accurate time over a 2–4-hour time period. We specialize in watches that are 20-100 years old, and as such, these items are previously worn, and the quality of the item WILL reflect that. Expect for a vintage timepiece to have blemishes... this is part of what gives these amazing pieces their charm. Further, unless a watch specifically says that it has been recently serviced, expect that at some point in time, this timepiece will need a professional servicing in order to run and keep excellent time, which is also part of the experience of owning any mechanical watch. If an extremely accurate, worry-free experience is what you are seeking, we would recommend purchasing a new quartz watch. Very few, if any, vintage watches will keep as accurate time as a modern quartz watch.
We do our absolute best to take accurate photographs of our items and to show any blemishes.
Examples of common characteristics of a vintage timepiece are:
-imperfections on the crystal
-imperfections on case
-imperfections on the lugs
-unless stated that the strap is new, the leather is often quite old and may need replacing in the future
-metal bracelets may not include all of the links that the watch originally may have come with, but can be replaced with a bracelet or strap of your choosing
If the item is a piece of vintage jewelry, be aware that the item may have some minor blemishes such as:
-missing stones (view photos, we will NEVER photoshop in a missing stone or piece)
-minor scratches or discoloration
-fading of plating
-fading of paint
We do our best to take accurate photos and provide accurate descriptions. Please take time to view our high-resolution photos of the item, and please ask any questions you may have prior to placing your bid. We want this purchasing experience to be pleasant and surprise-free. Vintage and antique items, unless "new old stock", have been around the block a time or two.
Thank you for your business! We hope to see you return in the future!
